The fishing has been on fire the last several weeks down here in the Keys. Everything from patch reef fishing for large mutton snapper to live bait fishing offshore of the reef for sailfish and blackfin tuna has been excellent offshore of Islamorada this winter. The sailfish bite has been very consistent with a lot of sails chasing ballyhoo right up on top of the reef witch makes for some very exciting sight casting opportunities. We’ve also been catching a lot of sails along with some really nice black fin while tuna kite fishing or live bait trolling offshore of the reef. We’ve had some of the best mutton snapper fishing I’ve seen in a long time on the shallow patch reefs just inside the main reef just 2 to 3 miles from shore. This kind of fishing usually involves using light spinning tackle and is a really fun way to catch these snapper. We even managed to catch a huge african pompano on the shallow reefs on a fishing charter this week! Check out the pictures at the bottom of this post.
Looking forward I will be putting the Easy Does It at Smugglers Marine right next to the Capt. Easy as of March 1st. Just in time for tarpon season! We had an awesome tarpon season last year and I’m looking forward to this one as well. I will be running both boats this season with most of the offshore trips on the Captain Easy and all of the Tarpon trips and some reef trips aboard the Easy does it through the summer. Don’t wait to long to book your charters as I will be fishing as much as possible, but probably will be pretty busy between the two boats! Thanks for checking us out and I hope to see you soon!
