Well a lot has changed in the world since my last post! As I write this the keys are currently closed to visitors and have been for about 8 weeks now due to the coronavirus. We have been allowed to do fishing charters during this time, but we’ve only gotten a couple of trips in as almost all of our customers are non Monroe County residents. The county has not announced a date to reopen the Keys to visitors, but right now most of us are hoping for June 1st as a start date. As soon as I know for sure I will post it here and on my social media.
When we have gotten to take a charter or gone fun fishing with the family the fishing has been excellent. There has been very few boats on the water with no visitors in the Florida Keys and very little fishing pressure on the fish which has resulted in some awesome fishing. We were able to get out for the grouper opener on May 1st with a local customer and were rewarded with our limit of nice black grouper as well as a great catch of yellowtail snapper. I’ve also experienced excellent tarpon fishing, wreck fishing for mutton snapper, deep drop fishing for different snapper and grouper, and some awesome sailfish and dolphin fishing on different trips with family and friends during this time.
I’m very much looking forward to hopefully taking charters out on a regular basis as soon as possible. If the Keys open in early June as we’re hoping down here it will be just in time for the peak of Dolphin and tarpon seasons and we usually have some very good bottom fishing that time of year as well. The schedule is pretty much wide open through the summer and fall and we’re hoping that a lot of the people that had to cancel their trips will be able to reschedule and take advantage of the great fishing we have here in the Florida Keys through the summer and fall months.
Just know that whatever happens when this whole thing is over and the keys are open to visitors again, we will be here and ready to get back out on the water. Thanks for checking out this report. Here are a few pictures from the last few trips out on the water!
